What We Do
Examine

We examine the gaps between what people are thinking and doing versus what the formal media are telling people. We also diagnose the degree to which leaders and employees are already connected to your strategy. We want to know how well they understand what's going on, what changes they think they may need to make, and how committed they are.

From the business side, we also review how well the communication function is able to deliver on its commitments to leaders and employees. We’re especially interested in helping you analyze your ROI.

We undertake a diagnostic only if there's a commitment to act on the results. Otherwise, why bother stirring things up? This bias toward action influences the scope of our research, including the tools we use.

Our diagnostic tools include interviews, focus groups, audits, benchmarking, needs assessments, process maps, say/do analyses, scans and web-based pulse surveys. We also rely on surveys and other research our clients recently have conducted.

Our research results shape how we explain issues and engage people. Research also influences any business cases for change that may arise.

We help leaders articulate their vision, strategy and new initiatives — clearly... compellingly... consistently and targeted to the right employee groups. We ensure that the messages sync up with the leaders' behavior. Plus, we confirm that the messages are cogent, coherent and coordinated. Just as important, we make sure there's some context around the messages so people will understand why there's a call to action. We also advocate having conversation around these explanations.

We design and implement processes, including communication and change tactics, to build employee understanding, increase employee involvement and gain support and commitment. Besides creating formal media, we work with leaders in the business units, HR, and other functions on their informal communication.
